Wayward Things…
Wayward Things is a newsletter about philosophy, culture, history, religion, storytelling and the big, bewildering mess that is human life. Wayward Things is written by me, Dr Will Buckingham.
I’m a writer and philosopher based between Taiwan and Scotland. Every two weeks, I take a thought for a walk to see where we end up. My interests sit somewhere between philosophy, storytelling and anthropology. And I’m interested in how thinking differently may help us find ways to live differently. This newsletter may not help you clean up your own big, bewildering mess of a life (where’s the fun in that, after all?). But it may help you find ways of rummaging around in it, so you can turn up new treasures.
My most recent book, Hello, Stranger (Granta 2022) was a BBC Radio4 Book of the Week. I also co-direct Wind&Bones Books, a non-profit micro-publisher that publishes philosophy, nonfiction, fiction, poetry and work in translation. I’m on the faculty at Parami University in Myanmar/Burma.
This is me, in the very excellent Roma Café in Leicester, UK (they have very good minestrone).
